Plastic L Channel Extrusion At Petro Packaging

February 7, 2022

plastic l channelWhen getting signposts, billboards, shelving, or other projects installed, it’s important to do away with rough edges. The reason for that is so that your finished product looks smooth and clean and so that people don’t nick themselves, either.

One way to make both those things possible is to use plastic L channel extrusions. L channel extrusions are a great way to keep things smooth and safe on your projects.

Here at Petro Packaging, we create many types of plastic channels, one of those being custom plastic L channel extrusions. Keep reading to learn more about what our products are and how they stand out from the crowd.

What Are Plastic L Channel Extrusions?

Plastic L channels are a lot more common than you might think. In fact, you’ve probably seen them in use at your local grocery store, on shelving units, or to smooth off signposts along the road!

These types of extrusions are shaped at a 90-degree angle. They’re used in a variety of different applications, including:

  • As corner guards
  • To support POS signs
  • As brackets
  • As shelving edges

No matter what type of application you’re looking for, plastic L channels offer a versatile solution. Plus, since they’re made out of plastic, they’re extremely lightweight options for your needs.

How Are Plastic L Channels Made?

Okay, so we understand why plastic L channels are such a great choice for your projects. However, how are these materials actually made?

Plastic extrusions are created using a manufacturing process that uses polymer materials. The materials are melted and enriched using additives and then formed into the correct shape in a continuous process.

To start creating a plastic L channel, the manufacturer uses gravity to feed the polymer through the hopper and rotate them on a screw using an electric motor. The screw’s design will vary depending on what the final shape of the extrusion will be and what material the manufacturer wants to use.

As the screws on the machine rotate, they force the polymer through the machinery. This pushes the plastic into a hot barrel.

From there, the plastic is pushed through the barrel and compressed. Typically several controllers create increasing temperatures inside the barrel to keep the plastics melting and moving.

Once the plastic has been completely pushed through the barrel, it is thoroughly mixed. From there, the machinery moves the plastic into a screen pack to remove the rotational memory of the plastic and filter out contaminants.

The last step of the process is moving the melt into a die. The die is what cuts the plastic and turns it into an H channel, L channel, or another type of extrusion.

After cutting the plastic, the manufacturer allows the polymer to cool. They will pull the plastic out of the die so that it can fully finish cooling in order to be packaged up and sent out to customers.

What Sets Petro Packaging’s L Channels Apart

With so many different plastic manufacturers out there it can be tough to choose which one to purchase from. However, we’re confident that our L channels are the best on the market. Here’s why.

Varied Materials

Even though L channels are all made out of polymers, not all polymers are the same. The exact type of polymer you use will depend on what your final application is.

However, many packaging companies only offer one type of polymer. At Petro Packaging, we go above and beyond by offering various materials for our customers to choose from.

Our materials include:

  • PETG Copolymer
  • Tenite CAB
  • Tenite CAP

While these are the materials that we specialize in, we also offer additional plastics. All you have to do is give us a call to learn what types of polymers our team is able to extrude.

Customized Products

Another reason why Petro Packaging should be your go-to for plastic L channels is that we offer customized products. We understand that not everyone needs extrusions for the same purpose, which is why we allow you to design exactly what you need.

We start our customization process by learning more about what your final use will be. From there, we can offer insights and advice to help make sure your L channels are ideal for your situation.

Next, we’ll work with you to come up with the ideal measurements for your L channel extrusions. We’ll also use the material of your choosing so that you can get the perfect L channels for your needs.

Years of Experience

When you get extrusions made, you want to know that you’re getting high-quality products. And, when you put your faith in our team, you know that’s the case.

That’s because we’ve been creating L channel and other extrusions for years. With more than 50 years of experience under our belts, we know exactly how to create the perfect extrusions for any application.

On top of that, we’ve learned tricks of the trade that help us ensure quality in everything we do. Getting L channel extrusions from Petro Packaging means knowing that you’re receiving a high-quality product from an expert team.
